Job Description Job Title: Summer Indigenous Gurlz Club Facilitator (1 position) Start Date: June 11th, 2007 End Date: August 25th, 2007 Hours: 30 hours/week Are you interested in working with Indigenous and racialised girls this summer? Are you creative and think outside the box? Are you a team player? If so, the Summer Indigenous Gurlz Club facilitator is a perfect fit! Tasks and Responsibilities:
Work with the Gurlz club coordinator and the board of directors to create and implement a summer long program that cumulates in a community action project in August to highlight learning and products created over the summer. Create a space for participatory, peer to peer learning, and social action on issues that are important to racialised and Indigenous girls in Victoria (10-16 years old) Facilitate leadership and presentation training workshops to participants in preparation for public speaking engagements. Liaise with Anti-dote Sistah’s network to coordinate summer workshops. Organize, plan and find resources to continue the Indigenous Gurlz Club in the fall with Anti-dote Board and Sistahs.
Qualifications:
Must be 19 years of age or older. Must be enrolled in school full-time in the semester prior to Summer Career Placement and planning to return to school full-time in September 2007. Education in Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Women’s Studies, Sociology, Education, Recreational Leadership, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Psychology, International/Community Development or related experience. Highly interested in and enthusiastic about working with youth. Knowledge of issues and barriers faced by visible minority girls and the dynamics of their identity formation. Experience facilitating youth group activities Experience working with people from diverse cultural communities. Ability to interact with various key players such as parents, co-workers, teachers, and social workers. Willingness to be challenged, learn new things and adapt to change. Computer skills in Word, Excel, and e-mail are an asset. Basic First Aid and CPR certification is required. A criminal record check is required.
