Press Release for Antidote Community Forum
We're Just Sayin! Anti-Dote Community Forum!
Antidote- Multi Racial Girls and Women's Network is proud to present our Community Forum on August 24th 2008, at Camas Bookstore in Victoria BC- Coast Salish Territories! (2590 Quadra Street, corner of King Street) from 2-4 PM!
Our forum will showcase the talent and voices of the amazing young girls and women involved in Antidote. We will open the floor to discussion on the three themes of the Forum: Identity, Belonging, and Home. "We're Just Sayin": will also mark the launch of the Zine that the Antidote Gurlz have spent summer 2008 working on. The forum will include presentations of the writings, artwork, poetry, and essays that the Gurlz wrote. We hope to spark cultural understanding, learning, and to dispel stereotypes about race and identity. We anticipate community members from the University of Victoria, and other not for profit organizations to join us for an afternoon of sharing and revolutionary discussion!
Anti-dote is a non-profit organization in Greater Victoria, committed to promoting the visibility and wellness of racialized Indigenous and minority girls and women in our communities, schools, and social services organizations. Our programs promote community development, leadership and social change in the area of diversity and cross-cultural understanding among young racialized women and girls. Through Antidote, girls and young women are actively involved in the planning and decision making process of youth-led initiatives, learning new skills, offering peer-to-peer support, creating awareness and increasing their confidence and leadership abilities. Please Join us for "We're Just Sayin'" and make our 2nd Community Forum a success!!!!
