Three Month Contract: Community Research Project Coordinator
“Identity, Belonging and Community Solidarity Among Racialised and Indigenous Girls and Young Women” funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
1. Position Description
As the CRPC, you will represent Anti-dote in a research collaboration with the University of Victoria in the Solidarity project that will bring racialised and Indigenous girls and young women together to explore their lived experiences and relationships with each other (Complete description on the website). You will coordinate the Anti-dote Sistahs and Gurlz programs to compliment the research project. You will supervise, train and support a team of research assistants for the data collection phase of the project. You will also be responsible for planning, training and implementing a one week- research Summer Camp using PAR research methods and innovative applied tools such as silk screening, photovoice, sports, etc.
2. Duration and Financial Contract:
This is a three month (12 week) contract at the rate of $20/hour at 20 hours a week starting May 14th, 2007. The contract is based on the completion of the following deliverables:
Qualifications:
We invite all applicants but preference will be given to racialised and Indigenous women. We ask that applicants self-identify in their letter of interest. The successful candidate will report to the Anti-dote Board of Directors.

- Plan, coordinate, train and supervise Research Assistants for the research project: Recruitment, training, planning and data collection (interviews, workshops, and focus groups, PAR methods).
- Plan, coordinate and deliver the Sistahs Leadership Certification project before the Projects for Peace summer camp.
- Plan and deliver the data collection phase using community development/ participatory action research methodology and Anti-dote’s research structure: Project for Peace- A one-week summer camp with workshop and focus groups (July 9-13th, 2007) for research participants.
- Coordinate with University research team to ensure completion of project objectives. Ensure regular meetings to share research findings and to problem solve.
- Coordinate and supervise Anti-dote’s Summer Gurlz Club with Gurlz Club Facilitator.
- Coordinate with Anti—dote Board of Directors; ensure all financial and program elements meet Anti-dote’s mandate and objectives.
Qualifications:
- Education in Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Women’s Studies, Sociology, Education, Psychology, International/Community Development or related experience. MA in hand or equivalent.
- Demonstrated background in community development and Participatory Action Research
- Experience in conducting interviews, focus groups, and other related qualitative methodologies.
- Knowledge of second language desirable.
- Knowledge of the Indigenous and or/ ethnic communities of Victoria.
- Proven background in working with youth.
- Subjective knowledge of issues and barriers faced by visible minority and Indigenous girls and the dynamics of their identity formation.
- Experience in program planning and coordination including program evaluation
- Experience working with people from diverse cultural communities.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills in working with professionals, parents, co-workers, teachers, and social workers.
- Willingness to be challenged, flexible, and open
- Computer skills in especially in Excel, Word, IMovie, and web design
- Ability to lead workshops or bring skills in expressive youth engaged research tools such as image/forum theatre, photo voice, video documentary, outdoor leadership, visual art, creative writing, etc.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo Basic First Aid and CPR certification and criminal record check. A Class 5 Driver’s license is required.
